To say Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal is placing an emphasis on the trenches would be a gross oversimplification of what’s actually taking place.
No, what Cristobal is building is an awe-inspring human citadel; stockpiling offensive linemen like a doomsday prepper does non-perishable food items.
The latest addition to Cristobal’s super-sized survival kit: four-star offensive lineman Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu, currently ranked the No. 1 overall JUCO prospect in the country per 247Sports’ Composite Recruiting Rankings.

The 6’7″, 345-pound monolith is the first offensive lineman to commit to Cristobal and the Ducks during the 2019 recruiting cycle, however, those sharing his gargantuan frame have become all the rage in Eugene these days. In 2019, Aumavae-Laulu will join the likes of Penei Sewell, Steven Jones, Dawson Jaramillo, Christopher Randazzo, and Justin Johnson – a freshmen group of five with an average weight of 332.8 pounds and an average height a shade under 6’6″. With the ability to play either guard or tackle, Aumavae-Laulu will join what is also anticipated to be one of the deepest offensive line units in the nation when he arrives on campus next year.
After compiling 22 offers during the recruiting process, Aumavae-Laulu chose the Ducks over offers from Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Oklahoma, USC, and others.
With Aumavae-Laulu now on board, the Ducks boast the nation’s 6th-ranked recruiting class for 2019 per 247Sports’ Composite Team Rankings.
